When I was at the NYSC orientation camp in Ekiti State—even though I was deployed to Lagos—a lot ran through my mind about finding a good Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). Let’s be honest: when you get your NYSC deployment letter and see "Lagos State," you get a bit scared. You hear endless stories about the crazy traffic, the intense stress, and the dreaded fear of being stuck doing boring office work like photocopying documents all day.
I had those exact same fears. However, walking through the doors of Mamtus Nigeria completely changed everything for me. As one of the biggest distributors of power tools, hand tools, and agricultural equipment in the country, their Lagos headquarters—located at 87 Palm Avenue, Mushin—felt different from day one. Looking back at my journey so far, I can’t help but smile. I am genuinely enjoying my youth service year.
 
Here is why I love waking up and coming to work every day:
 
1. The Office is a Whole Vibe
 
Honestly, the absolute best part about Mamtus is the people. The biggest surprise for me was the warm environment at our Lagos headquarters. From day one, nobody looked down on me because of my status as a youth corper.
The staff here are incredibly welcoming. They do not treat me like "just a corper"; they treat me like a true colleague and a younger sibling. We share meals, crack jokes, and they are always ready to guide me patiently whenever I make mistakes. Coming to an office where you feel safe, respected, and genuinely happy is a luxury, and I do not take it for granted.
 
2. The Excitement of Logistics
 
I work in the Logistics department, and this is where the real action happens. Logistics is the engine of the company. My job is to ensure our industrial power tools get to our customers safely and on time. It is a high-energy, fast-paced job. Planning smart routes with our drivers to beat the heavy Lagos traffic is surprisingly fun. It is never boring, and I love the rush of accomplishment when a complex delivery goes perfectly.
 
3. The Day I Felt Like a Boss 
 
My happiest day so far was the first time I managed a delivery to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA). The order was highly urgent, and the airport security regulations were incredibly strict. I was quite nervous during the transit, but we pulled it off flawlessly! Seeing our goods successfully delivered to the airport handlers made me feel so proud. It was the moment I realized that my work truly matters to the company.
 
4. Building Real-World Confidence 
 
The best part of this entire experience is seeing how much I have grown. The shy graduate who first walked into Mamtus months ago is gone. Working here has given me undeniable real-world confidence. I can now negotiate effectively with tough transport vendors and speak boldly to corporate clients. Mamtus is teaching me practical business skills that you simply cannot learn inside a university classroom.
 
Facing the Challenges Head-On
 
As much as I am enjoying my time at Mamtus Nigeria, life in Lagos isn't completely rosy. I have faced two major challenges so far. My first challenge is the commuting distance, which means spending a significant portion of my allowance on transport. This is Lagos, and as we all know, transport fares can be unforgiving. Finding affordable accommodation nearby is also quite a hurdle.
My second challenge was the product line itself. Mamtus Nigeria deals in specialized industrial tools and equipment that I was completely unfamiliar with at first, which sometimes made it difficult to discuss them confidently. However, the team has been supportive, and I am learning fast every day.
 
Final Thoughts 
 
If anyone had told me during camp that I would enjoy my NYSC year this much, I wouldn't have believed them. Mamtus Nigeria has given me a professional family, massive career skills, and memories I will cherish forever. Big shoutout to Mamtus Nigeria for making my corper life an absolute vibe.
